"Don't worry, Ms. Taylor. Routine. In-and-out."
Verlaine (from Alien: Isolation)

Diane Verlaine was the captain and owner of the commercial transport vessel USCSS Torrens. In 2137, she was hired by Weyland-Yutani to transport Christopher Samuels, Nina Taylor and Amanda Ripley to Sevastopol Station to recover the flight recorder of the USCSS Nostromo. They arrived at the station on December 11, 2137.

Verlaine was presumably killed by the Xenomorph Drone that got aboard the ship while it was attached to Sevastopol.

First contact[]

After briefing the crew on their mission at Sevastopol and giving them their folders, Verlaine attempted to establish contact with Sevastopol. This communication was disrupted and the response from the person on the other end was unintelligible. Verlaine opted to stay aboard her ship along with William Connor, the ship's navigator and communications officer while crew members Amanda Ripley, Christopher Samuels, and Nina Taylor attempted to space walk over to Sevastopol. An explosion on the station severed the EVA line the crewmembers were using and separated Amanda from Taylor and Samuels. Taylor had sustained an injury from the debris of the blast, and was in critical condition.

Cut Communications[]

After losing contact with the group, Verlaine attempted in vain to find the crew by searching through the windows of the ship, failing to notice Amanda during her trek through Sevastopol's Spaceflight Terminal communications before the the terminal's shutters blocked her view inside. Severed from the crew on board Sevastopol and with the Torrens damaged by debris from the explosion, Verlaine and Connor had no choice but to pull out from the station and repair the Torrens before any action could be taken.

Rescue[]

After Verlaine and Connor witnessed a second explosion caused by the USCSS Anesidora's self-destruction, Sevastopol's orbital stabilization array was taken out by the blast, and the station began to plummet into KG-348's atmosphere. Verlaine contacted Sevastopol and announced that she was willing to take survivors. Ripley realigned Sevastopol's communications manually and contacted Verlaine asking for an extraction. Unfortunately, the Torrens' umbilical wasn't built for the towing platform beneath the spaceflight terminal. Ripley realized she would have to extend the tow platform clamps station side in order for Verlaine to rescue her. Verlaine maneuvered the Torrens' into position at the tow platform.

Unfortunately, Ripley discovered that the station's personal umbilical was removed just before decommissioning and would have to use the maintenance rig and an EVA suit to get to the Torrens. Just before Ripley was about to put on the EVA suit, a Xenomorph in a vent directly above dragged and cocooned her in a small, second hive on the station. Ripley managed to escape the hive and Verlaine informed her that the Torrens was being dragged down along with Sevastopol and Ripley needed to activate the maintenance platform's emergency release. Activating the Torrens' engines, just as a group of Xenomorphs were about to attack Amanda, she freed the Torrens just as Sevastopol was about to burn up in the atmosphere of KG-348.

Presumed death[]

Although the Torrens had successfully escaped from Sevastopol, a lone Xenomorph had snuck on board the ship during the time the Torrens was attached to Sevastopol. It is unknown whether or not Verlaine and Connor were killed by the Xenomorph, but seeing as how it came directly from the ship's cockpit, it is very likely.

Behind the scenes[]

Verlaine was first revealed January 7, 2014, when a promotional photo of her was released.[2]

Diane Verlaine's voice and appearance belongs to Jane Perry who became famous for voicing Diana Burnwood in the Hitman series.
