- "Weyland-Yutani is literally killing the world. And Epsilon is where they do their psych and cyberwarfare programs. Are you gonna deny it?"
- ―Danny Cruz to his father (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Danny Cruz was a member of the Minute Hand Movement that opposed the Weyland-Yutani Corporation in the year 2200. He was the son of Wey-Yu veteran Gabriel Cruz, but his relationship with his father became strained following the death of his brother Lucas, and Gabriel's continued relations with the company.
Biography[]
Early Life and Joining the MHM[]
- "Goddamn Weyland-Yutani killed our family, and he just...Let them. He practically is them."
- ―Danny (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Danny was the son of Chief of Security aboard the Epsilon Station, Gabriel Cruz. During his service, Gabriel embarked on a mission that culminated in a Xenomorph encounter aboard the ship Hadley, resulting in all of his men being slaughtered and Gabriel the sole-survivor.
During his mission, Danny and Lucas were playing within the depths of the station, before Lucas was suddenly caught inside an unmarked maintenance shuttle and fell into a connection shaft, where he ultimately suffocated and died. Cruz's wife sued the Company, but upon Cruz' return, they convinced him to drop the lawsuit, causing his wife and Danny to leave him for the United Americas. Danny, as a result, despised the company and distanced himself greatly from his father.
Twenty years later, whilst working security for the Grant Corporation, Danny was approached by Iris Humphries to join the Minute Hand Movement, a pro-United Americas/anti-company extremist organisation, to which he accepted. Danny would go on to form a romance with Iris.
Infiltrating Epsilon[]
Upon hearing of his father's return to Earth from Epsilon following a retirement, Danny was sent to steal a security card in his father's possession, under the guise of a visit. Danny met with his father, and after an awkward exchange, asked to use the bathroom, acquiring the security card. Danny then informed Gabriel that he was going to take leave, upsetting him. An argument ensued, in which Danny accused his father of only caring about money and not his own family, before leaving.
Danny, Iris, and a group of assailants would go on to covertly board Epsilon in a personnel carrier disguised as a maintenance drone, killing the two security guards. The group progressed further, intent on bombing the station's server farm. However, they instead encountered a bio-lab, containing tanks filled with deformed Xenomorphic constructs. They came across two scientists, Dorsey and Jackie, with the latter promptly initiating a vocal override. Jackie was shot before the lab went into lockdown, and the group were attacked by Facehuggers.
Cocooned[]
- "I don't care about the Alien. I'm not giving up another son for this. I gave everything to this goddamn place. My marriage...My kids... My entire life. Their damn bioweapon can burn up in the atmosphere, along with everything else I sacrificed here. I choose Danny. And we need to get this thing out of him."
- ―Cruz (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Danny was subsequently subdued by a Facehugger, and taken to the Xenomorph's established hive. Meanwhile, Cruz had been assigned by the company to return to the station before its eventual collapse, and retrieve the 'Alpha Embryo', with Cruz also searching for Danny. He would eventually encounter his son within the hive alongside defense agent Hamilton, and Cruz' synthetic counsellor, Bishop. Cruz tearfully drew a handgun, intending to put Danny out of his misery, but Iris suddenly appeared from behind and held him at gunpoint, desiring to save Danny. Bishop also agreed, and Cruz eventually caved in, taking Danny with him as the group retreated from the hive.
With the now fully-grown Alpha-Xenomorph hunting down Cruz to retrieve the embryo inside Danny, Cruz sent Bishop and Iris off to one of the station's exec quarters that was outfitted with a life-raft, opting instead to take the "long way around" to buy them time away from the Alpha.
Cruz eventually reunited with Bishop and Iris at the life-raft, the Facehugger since detaching itself from Danny's face. The three managed to board the life-raft and escape, but Cruz was dismayed to realize that the hypersleep tube aboard the pod had been destroyed, subsequently begging Bishop to perform a manual surgery on Danny to save him. Iris suddenly shot Bishop in the head, incapacitating him and knocking out the wounded Cruz. She then cradled Danny and assured him that he's "finally gonna save the world."
Surgery[]
- "I'm already starting to forget it. I just remember the smell...This horrible, ungodly stink...And the deepest dark I've ever seen. There was something...In the dark, I think. Something looking for me...Something far, far away."
- ―Danny describing his nightmare (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Iris, revealed to be a Synthetic Sleeper Agent, ultimately planned to return Danny back to the MHM, and use his Chestburster against the Company. However, she was thwarted by Cruz and Bishop and destroyed. After Cruz had sacrificed himself to kill the Alpha and save Bishop and Danny, the former managed to successfully remove Danny's Chestburster, saving him. Bishop noted that the two were entering United American airspace and he would soon brief him on events. Danny subsequently recalled a nightmare he had of the "deepest dark" he had ever seen, and that something in that dark was looking for him.
Personality and Traits[]
Danny was a troubled young man in his rough mid-twenties. Due to Lucas' death, and his father's seeming passivity after the incident, Danny never truly forgave Gabriel for his actions, and remained incredibly distant to him. He also despised Weyland-Yutani, and went on to join the Minute Hand Movement in an attempt to take them down. During his time there he formed a romance with Iris Humphries, unaware that she herself was actually a Synthetic.
Despite Danny's hatred of the Company and affiliation with the extremist organisation, he was still a man of morals, and protested when Iris killed two Epsilon security guards in cold blood.
