Crew Messages are a series of 2017 short films starring Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Tess Haubrich, Demián Bichir and Danny McBride. Created as part of the viral marketing campaign for Alien: Covenant, the films are brief transmissions recorded by members of the Covenant crew to their families.

Plot[]

Before entering hypersleep aboard the USCSS Covenant, several members of the crew record final messages for their loved ones at home. Daniels tells her father how excited she is to be colonizing a distant planet; Oram talks religiously about their responsibility in creating a new world; Rosie expresses her loneliness at the thought of being out in deep space; Lopé makes a businesslike final status report, expressing his concern that a six–strong squad may not be adequate protection for the mission, and Tennessee shares a drink with his younger brother and comes clean to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation about his felony record, of which they were previously unaware.

Throughout the videos, the image occasionally breaks up and brief clips from Alien: Covenant can be seen, including footage from the explorers' mounted GoPro cameras.

Release[]

The videos were released through YouTube in two batches as part of the viral marketing campaign for Alien: Covenant — those recorded by Daniels and Oram were released on April 17, 2017,[1][2] while the remainder, by Rosenthal, Lopé and Tennessee, were released three days later on April 20.[3][4][5]

Goofs[]

  • During her video, Daniels states that Origae-6 represents a new beginning for two thousand families; that number applies to the amount of colonists aboard the Covenant rather than the amount of families.
