"Where, man? I don't see shit." |
- "That was a combat android! They are illegal! This is typical of Karl. Forever twisting the rules."
- ―Katya (from Aliens vs. Predator)
Combat Androids, also known as combat synthetics, were specially armored and hardened Weyland-Yutani-owned synthetics constructed specifically for combat purposes.
Despite the illegality of combat synths,[1] they saw continued use under the company, the latter developing a unique model that was specifically deployed following a Xenomorph infestation on BG-386. These models would engage in skirmishes with the USCM, as well as the Xenomorph and Yautja species. They also served as bodyguards for Karl Bishop Weyland during the incident, he himself being a synthetic double of his real counterpart.
Overview[]
AI and Technological capabilities[]
Combat android's were programmed with tactical and battlefield management software, and were able to not only utilize a range of weaponry with deadly efficiency but survey and adapt to changing battlefield conditions and plan attacks accordingly.[1]
Owing to their nature, their design was far cruder than commercial synthetics, and lacked a full outer covering of skin, leaving many of their more superficial mechanisms, particularly on the face, exposed.[1] Notably, the Weyland-Yutani logo was imprinted over their eyeballs. They operated on a far more basic interaction program that left them with access to only limited language, often speaking in mechanical, inhuman tones.[1] Despite this however, similar to humans they would emulate the same fear and screams when killed.
The combat androids were hardened against typical battlefield damage and hazards, with much sturdier construction, including integral armor, often tough enough to largely withstand the light armor piecing ammunition fired by the M41A/2 Pulse Rifle.[1] The armor itself was likely based off of that used by the Weyland-Yutani Commando forces. Even without armor, they were able to sustain a heavy amount of firepower before deactivation, and were capable of continuing to fight following the loss of limbs, even their heads.[1] They also had built in motion trackers to combat Xenomorphs, rendering the creature's stealth capabilities effectively useless.
Some of the models would release a small electromagnetic pulse after death, capable of stunning nearby targets and shorting out a Yautja's Cloak.[1] While only moderately damaging, this EMP blast could effectively disorient anything caught in its radius. They also possess their own cloaking devices reverse engineered from Predator technology.
Notably, the combat androids were programmed with specific software to deal with the Yautja species.[2]
Combat use[]
Combat Androids being synthetic were usually much more efficient than a human soldier, employing advanced sight, the previously mentioned reverse engineered cloaking devices and implemented motion tracker. During the Xenomorph outbreak on BG-386 Combat Androids were on the frontline for combating both Xenomorphs and Colonial Marines alike. It was for this exact reason of their superiority over human soldiers that they were outlawed as it gave one side a highly unfair advantage in combat, especially with the M42A Scope Rifle they usually employed. This however did not stop Weyland-Yutani from smuggling and illegally manufacturing their own brand of Combat Androids, bending the rules to have them.
Non-Combat uses[]
When not employed for containing Xenomorphs or eliminating Yautja and Marines, Combat Androids acted as guards for the various sites of Weyland-Yutani, doing rudimentary tasks such as escorting test subjects to chambers, as per clause 88c of their employee agreement.
Trivia[]
- In Aliens vs. Predator, decapitating a combat android as an Alien or Predator proves instantly fatal, yet shooting off an android's head as a Marine typically fails to destroy it (although it will considerably reduce its shooting accuracy).
- Due to the Wey-Yu logo being imprinted on their eyeballs, it is implied that they were created by the company itself.
- Combat Androids cannot be stealth killed as easily as Marines as they have an implemented motion tracker.
- Besides the Predators encountered in the combat arena by Specimen 6, combat androids are the only enemies that can cancel a grab from a Xenomorph. This also implies that combat androids are stronger than that of a typical adult Xenomorph.
