- "You... You gotta give me... Jelly..."
- ―Chen (from Aliens: Colonial Marines)
Private First Class Chen was a member of the United States Colonial Marine Corps. She was part of the undisciplined and insubordinate crew of the USS Melville, reputed as the "worst", to convoy toxic waste to Alphatech's Waste Disposal Facility "SunGun". She perished in the destruction of the Alphatech communication array.
Biography[]
Chen was part of the highly undisciplined crew of the USS Melville, whom Lieutenant Joseph Henry was recently assigned to. Their mission was to convoy toxic waste to Alphatech's Waste Disposal Facility SunGun and to transport personnel from Alphatech to a deep space communication array for a year.
Mission in SunGun[]
- "Woof! I wouldn't swap spit with this creep no matter how hard up I was."
- ―Chen whilst capturing a Bug-Man (from Aliens: Colonial Marines)
When arriving in the SunGun vicinity, Henry tried to contact the facility but received no response. Fearing a problem, Henry had Sergeant Nyland wake the Marines up from hypersleep. However, as his men were disinclined and refused to gear up, Henry was forced to physically discipline them. Once back in line they boarded the SunGun and explored the interior, eventually discovering that they were dealing with a Xenomorph infestation. She was assigned with the others to secure the floor while Henry sweept the operation center. After the Xenomorph assault, she managed with the rest of the group to isolate themselves in the Zero-G well, while the others wait she went spacewalking alongside Henry, Rake and survivor Dinkel to purge the Tox-bay hatch, expelling all Xenos in space. After wiping out the remaining Xenos, Chen identified and captured a member of the terrorist cult, the Bug-Men, before the group subsequently made a safe retreat to the Melville. In the aftermath, the Marines all congratulated their own survival, though Nyland was outraged by their naivety and lectured them before leaving.
Stopover to Bracken's World[]
- "Wha...? Did the skiff just move a little? I wonder how deep this channel is..."
- ―Chen (from Aliens: Colonial Marines)
While Henry briefed them about the mission, Beech and Rosemas covertly shared some Royal Jelly with her. Once on the planet, Chen and the group investigated a rogue signal from within in the kelp farms, and were ambushed by Bug-Men in an Alphatech listening post. She embarked on the APC that was forced to cross the kelp farms after the dropship was destroyed where they were subsequently stranded. After Carrano was killed by an aquatic Xenomorph she had to keep them at bay until Nyland's dropship picked them up to the planet's main colony, Sector 1. The next day, as Henry reluctantly accepted the colony governor’s request of dealing with the Xenomorphs, Chen was part of the unit that patrolled the main channel, and was forced to retreat when Xenomorphs appeared. Things go further awry when acid blood started to eat through the colony's stormwall. She and the rest of the team finally managed to pin down the Xenomorph threat with the assistance of Herk Mondo, but not without ruining the colony. After the battle, under the orders of Henry, Chen and the others got micro-explosives planted in their neck under the guise of a medical review. It was revealed that she, Rosemas and Vormitag were being given Royal Jelly by the captive Bug-Man, and the two were asked to kill a colonist by the prisoner. However, when they were hesitant, he threatened to not give them Royal Jelly anymore, alluding to the dangerous effects of withdrawal.
Royal Jelly withdrawal and Death[]
- "We can't just leave him there!"
- ―Chen after feeling guilty about the shop steward sacrifice (from Aliens: Colonial Marines)
After Henry briefed the team about the comm array being overrun by Bug-Men and revealed to them that he had implanted them with micro-bombs within their necks to prevent rebelling, Chen tried to confront Henry, but was distracted by Liston, suddenly informing them of the Melville's destruction, leaving them stranded. During the travel to the Joliet Mining Facility, where Beliveau revealed that he possessed a weapons cache hidden and a FTL capable spacecraft, Chen took her last dose of Royal Jelly, as a disgusted Beliveau looked on.
After arriving in the facility, Chen, in a drug-induced panic, gunned down Billy, one of the synthetics guarding the facility, angering and provoking the Shop steward. Chen was held by the collar by the steward until Beliveau diffused the situation. After Nyland and the marines stocked up on their new weaponry, they were ambushed by a horde of Xenomorphs. Chen lagged behind, and was grabbed by an Alien, but was subsequently saved by the Stewart, who sacrificed himself to buy the marines enough time off the facility. Chen and the squad reached Beliveau's Alphatech Assaultcraft allowing them to get off the system. Feeling guilty, Chen checked her jelly stash, only to see it empty, causing her to slump in sadness.
Chen subsequently suffered from a severe withdrawal, and was taken to the ship's med-bay, unconscious. When the marines arrived at the Alphatech research station #2378, Chen woke from her comatose state, and searched for the Bug-Man prisoner to request for more jelly. Instead, she encountered an unconscious female Bug-Man, and witnessed her be taken by a group of Xenomorphs.
After the marines arrived at their penultimate destination, the Alphatech comms array, Chen stayed within the ship, being in no condition to partake in the final assault. She was ultimately killed in the array's imminent destruction.
Equipment[]
Beyond her military fatigues, during the exploration of the SunGun facility, she donned a comm headset and an EVA suit. On Bracken's World she wore a variant of the standard issue M3 Pattern Personal Armor and an M10 Pattern Ballistic Helmet for protection. She was equipped with an unidentified assault rifle equipped with an over-and-under grenade launcher.
Personality and Traits[]
Being a Xeno-Zip addict and later a Royal Jelly addict, Chen was perhaps one of the more disorderly and incompetent members of the squad, as she had no qualms with getting high whilst on the field, a feat that proved incongruous for the squad on numerous occasions.
