This article is about The Bishop-model counsellor that served aboard Epsilon Station. For the synthetic that served aboard the Sulaco, see Lance Bishop. |
- "The woman in your dreams means something, Gabriel. Find me on Earth -- we'll figure out it out together. In the meantime: good luck with your dreams, the trip home, you're son...And try to enjoy your retirement party."
- ―Bishop to Gabriel Cruz (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Bishop was a Bishop-model synthetic who would serve as veteran Gabriel Cruz's counsellor aboard Epsilon Station.
After the station suddenly plunged into chaos following a botched raid from the Minute Hand Movement, Bishop would assist Cruz in his plight for survival, alongside Defence Agent, Hamilton.
Biography[]
Weyland-Yutani Defence Agent Gabriel Cruz and his squad were assigned to investigate the colony vessel Hadley that had been adrift in space species twenty years prior. The crew were met with a Xenomorph infestation, leaving Cruz the sole survivor, who was rescued by his squads' Bishop-model. After Bishop had returned Cruz to Epsilon Station in Stasis, the Company managed to surgically remove the specimen mere moments before its birthing. Though he was revered as a hero by the Company for being the man responsible for their first procurement of a Xenomorph specimen - the Alpha, Cruz himself became distant with his family, his wife and son Danny leaving him after he convinced his wife to drop a lawsuit against the Wey-Yu after their son Lucas had died in an accident aboard Epsilon.
Cruz would subsequently attend counselling sessions aboard Epsilon Station headed by a different Bishop, likely an influenced decision following his experience aboard the Hadley. During counselling, Cruz would discuss strange nightmares that he suffered from, involving a Xenomorph hive, headed by an elusive female figure, also detailing his estranged relationship with Danny.
Counselling on Earth[]
- "As an artificial person, I won't pretend I've experienced personal relationships as complex as your relationship with Danny. But you knew your reunion would be difficult. And you don't know how much time you have left."
- ―The Earth Bishop to Cruz (from Alien: Bloodlines)
With Cruz now retired from service as chief of security aboard the station due to medical diagnostics, he intended to return to Earth to reconnect with Danny. With his final session with Bishop under wraps, Bishop informed him that they will continue his sessions back on Earth, his files being transmitted to a different synthetic.
Following his retirement party, Cruz travelled to the United Americas and attempted to reconcile with his son, which only resulted in an argument between the two and Danny leaving. Cruz would attend his next session with a different Bishop, noting that the model acted more reserved than his last. Bishop clarified that this was due to his programming, that many people in the region preferred "a lighter touch". Bishop subsequently encouraged Cruz to talk to Danny about his Xenomorph encounter, and to reveal his illness to him that he had kept a secret from Danny.
Infestation aboard Epsilon[]
It was revealed that Danny was a member of an extremist group known as the Minute Hand Movement, and after stealing his father's security card during a visit there, Danny, his girlfriend Iris Humphries and other assailants covertly boarded the ship, intent on bombing the station's server farm. However, their actions would result in a subsequent Xenomorph infestation.
Cruz subsequently returned to the decaying station on the orders of retrieving the 'Alpha Embryo', also hoping to find Danny. Bishop would go on to reunite with Cruz after he saved him and Defence Agent Hamilton from an attacking Drone with an M240 Incinerator Unit. Bishop had survived the incident largely due to his synthetic nature, with the creatures ignoring him.
Retrieving Danny[]
- "Also, on a personal level, I think you would regret this very much. You said it wasn't up to you whether or not we bring an Alien back to Earth. I'm afraid allowing Danny's death isn't up to me either. Either we leave him like this...Or we take him with us. Like this. Which is it?"
- ―Bishop to Cruz (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Bishop escorted Cruz and Hamilton to the station's hive, explaining to them that he initially attempted to save the station's personnel cocooned within the nest, only to realize that he had no where to take them due to quarantine protocol shutting down the escape pods. This, coupled with the Aliens having a symbiotic link with a hosts' embryo proved any effort in saving the hosts to be futile, and he was forced to abandon them. Upon exploring the hive, the group encounter Danny, cocooned and facehugged.
Cruz tearfully drew his handgun and prepared to mercy-kill his son, though Bishop's programming forbade him to allow Cruz to execute him, citing that there was still a chance to save him. Iris subsequently emerged too, holding Cruz at gunpoint. Ultimately, the two managed to convince Cruz to bring Danny back to Earth with the slim chance of removing the embryo.
Whilst under the duress of the hive, the group retreated with Danny back to the docking bay, with Bishop sustaining an injury to his abdomen. Hamilton was killed in the chaos, and the fully-grown Alpha was now hunting them down. Cruz ultimately had Bishop and Iris retreat to one of the station's exec quarters that was outfitted with a life-raft, with he himself opting to take the "long way around" to buy them time away from the Alpha.
Escorting Iris and reaching the Life-raft[]
- "This isn't an O.R. Even if the Alien doesn't kill him, even if he doesn't bleed out, in this environment, he would certainly get infected."
"We'll treat the infection later! Use whatever we have -- just get this Alien out of his chest before it--" - ―Bishop and Cruz (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Whilst escorting Iris to the life-raft, Bishop notices several Ovomorphs nearby, and suggests taking a detour through the ceiling tiles. Iris is difficult, and begins berating Bishop on his artificiality, deeming him a tool with no autonomy, likening him to Cruz. Bishop attests that her assessment of his patient was "uncharitable".
The two arrive at the executive quarters, only for Cruz to arrive moments after, wounded during his skirmish with the Alpha, the latter and a horde in hot pursuit. The three quickly enter the executive quarters, Cruz throwing a belt of grenades at the Xeno's wake as the bulkhead is sealed behind them.
Though momentarily safe, Bishop observed to Cruz that the pod's hypersleep tube had been destroyed. Desperate, Cruz pleads with Bishop to perform a manual surgery on Danny to save his son at any cost. However, Iris suddenly protested that a newborn Xenomorph wouldn't survive the extraction - she subsequently shoots Bishop point blank in the head, destroying him and knocking out Cruz.
Escaping the station and Surgery[]
- "I pity you so much, Bishop. I wish I could see what a sad little puppet you are... Just dancing on their strings, forever. You should have been like us. You should have been beautiful."
- ―Iris Humphries to Bishop (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Presumed dead, Bishop survived the attack. Whilst Iris was contacting her superior on a terminal, Bishop managed to disable her with the butt of a Pulse Rifle. breaking her neck and leaving her in a pool of circulatory fluid. Revealed to be a Synthetic Sleeper Agent with free will, Iris condemned Gabe for finding "Prometheus' Fire", citing that he will be responsible for the end of humanity, after once again scorning Bishop as a "sad little puppet".
After Iris deactivated, Cruz once again begged Bishop to perform the surgery on Danny, to which he reluctantly complies with. However, the two are interrupted by director of Epsilon Ted Reynolds who blackmails Cruz to keep the specimen inside Danny, lest he remote-locks the life-raft to the station and initiate a deliberate fall from orbit, killing the two. Instead, Cruz donned a compression suit to manually separate the raft from the station, but was attacked by the emerging Alpha, and the two are killed after an explosion propels them both into space.
With the life-raft successfully detached, Bishop managed to pilot the ship into United American airspace after the surgery on Danny was a success. Hours later, Danny reawakened subsequently recalling a nightmare he had of the "deepest dark" he had ever seen, and that something in that dark was looking for him.
Personality and Traits[]
- "A Xenomorph might attack an armed group, but it will attack a single person for sure. You're safest with us, I'm afraid."
- ―Bishop (from Alien: Bloodlines)
Being a model 341-B[citation needed], Bishop possessed identical traits and mannerisms to previous Bishops, namely Lance Bishop. As opposed to being assigned as a technician, however, this Bishop was ironically a programmed counsellor and dealt with human psychology, in spite of not possessing human emotions himself.
