Batman versus Predator III: Blood Ties, originally titled Batman versus Predator III, is a four-issue limited crossover comic book series that was first published by DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics from December 1997-February 1998. It was written by Chuck Dixon, pencilled by Rodolfo Damaggio, inked by Robert Campanella, colored by Pat Garrahy, Heroic Age, Lee Loughridge and Darren J. Vincenzo, lettered by John Costanza and edited by Denny O'Neil, Scott Peterson, Jenette Kahn and Darren J. Vincenzo, with cover art by Damaggio and Campanella. In the comic, Batman is joined by fellow Gotham-based characters Robin, Oracle, Catwoman and Mister Freeze when two more Predators come to their city.
#1: Perhaps the deadliest threat Batman has ever faced is back in town. And this time, the Predator's not alone! On Earth to show his son the thrill of the hunt, an older champion brings the "boy" to Gotham City where the younger Predator will "cut his teeth" on Robin. Now Batman must find and neutralize the threat while trying to keep Robin out of the path of these deadly aliens. To counter them, they may have to make a pact with another deadly enemy: Mr. Freeze!
#2: The battle between the Dark Knight and a father-and-son pair of deadly Predators continues! The truth of what has invaded Gotham City is too terrible for Batman to reveal to Robin. And to stop it, Batman takes to the sky in a specially modified Waynetech chopper to pursue and take out the two Predators on their hunt in Gotham.
#3: Batman's first attempt to bring down the Predators has failed and his only recourse is to set a trap for them in his own backyard: Wayne Tower. But while Batman fights for his life high above Gotham City, the younger of the two Predators sets out on a hunting trip of his own: to track an unsuspecting Tim Drake and his friends, who are taking in a drive-in movie.
#4: Batman learns that one of the Predators stalking Gotham has Robin as his target. Can he defeat the extraterrestrial hunter in his own trial and then reach the Batcave in time to save the Boy Wonder? And what will be left of the Dark Knight's lair after the young Predator has unleashed his arsenal inside it?
After its initial publication under the original title Batman versus Predator III, the series received its current title, Batman versus Predator III: Blood Ties, when it was collected as a trade paperback in June 1998, featuring a new cover by Rodolfo Damaggio and Robert Campanella.
Batman versus Predator III: Blood Ties was collected again as part of the DC Comics/Dark Horse Comics: Batman vs. Predator trade paperback, alongside the related stories Batman versus Predator and Batman versus Predator II: Bloodmatch. The collection was released in June 2017 and featured cover art by Mike Mignola.
Behind the Scenes
Veteran comics writer Chuck Dixon is perhaps best known for his work with Batman during his time as writer for DC Comics' flagship title Detective Comics in the 1990s. He also wrote the Predator story Predator: The Pride at Nghasa for Dark Horse.
For some reason, Blood Ties is not currently listed on either Dark Horse Comics' or DC Comics' websites.
