Batik was a young outposter living at the farm-colony on Tirgu-Mires. He was responsible for Roark venturing into the derelict Engineer ship and encountering the Wraith. He also owned a Chigusa Corporation brand jeep. He was killed by a group of Colonial Marines as part of a cover-up.

Biography[]

Batik was a local boy at the fourth generation agri-colony on Tirgu-Mires, he, Hope, and the other teens were friends with Specs before his disappearance. A year later he, Hope, and another local boy were watching a migrant ship arrive when they were scolded by the newcomer Roark. When Hope invited the newcomer to the evening bush jam, Batik confronted him with the legend of the Wraith and the cave after Roark complained about the boring lifestyle the outposters led. Roark then asks him to take them to the cave, to which he complies.

After Roark and Hope escape the cave, clothes all torn, Batik and the other teens climbed up the side of the hill to meet them, concerned as to what had happened. Roark warned them to stay back because the Wraith might still be alive, to which Batik says that it is just a fable. When he saw the scratch marks on Hope's back, Batik blamed Roark and accused him of harming her. Hope, however, corroborates Roark's story and warning Batik that they are in danger. This causes Batik's usually calm demeanor to shift to one of fear and uncertainty, he and the other stare at the opening, waiting for the Wraith to appear.

After a while, nothing happens and the teens begin to head back to their jeep, with Batik huddling up to Hope. Just as they do so, the Wraith emerges from the hole and grabs one of the local boys, lifting him up into the air. This causes Batik and the others to run down the hillside in terror. The Wraith is killed by a group of Colonial Marines and Batik expresses his relief before being questioned by the Marines who have put the group of teens under quarantine. After Roark confirms that they are the only witnesses, the Marines gun the teens down, leaving no survivors.

Trivia[]

  • While never confirmed, it is possible he has a relationship with Hope as the two appear to be quite close.
  • When confronting Roark with the tale of the Wraith, Batik claims to have seen the Wraith himself, giving a fairly accurate description of the creature. However, after Roark and Hope escape the Wraith, Batik implies that he does not believe in the fable. It is possible that Batik's description of the Wraith comes from local hearsay.
