The Artificial Womb Soldier Program was a military program developed by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation to bolster the ranks of the United States Colonial Marine Corps.

Overview[]

Based in Redlake Field AeroSpace Force Base, Weyland-Yutani scientists used gene therapy techniques to tweak the physical attributes of artificially inseminated embryos. All soldiers are grown in synthetic wombs and raised in a communal military environment that taught them everything they needed to know to win at war—and nothing else. In order to avoid any unintentional mix-ups, each artificial womb soldier was marked with the middle initials "A.W." and has the surname of a weapon.[1] While AWS are less cost effective than regular troops the program created lethal warriors, putting orders and mission above their own safety and possessing a more developed strength and less empathy. [2]

History[]

Because of the failure to pass the 2109 Colonial Draft Act coupled with the loss of the UAS Archangel on Thedus. United Americas first considered to use Davis and Franklin combat synthetics but the idea was scrapped due to the United Americas Allied Command prefering human troops so they turned to Weyland-Yutani for an alternative, the AWS Project was born. The first crops of AWS were initiated in the early 2110s, were then deployed during major United Americas conflicts such as the Colony Wars, Arcturian Conflicts, the Dog War and also saw limited deployment during the Tientsin Campaign. [1]

However the AWS Program wasn't flawless, firstly the project was very time-consuming as it takes 18 years to create a viable soldier, not very useful when ranks needs to bolstered quickly. Then AWS aren't very appreciated by regular soldiers and have problems with interpersonal relationship as they were created to follow orders and kill, not making friends. And ultimately due to their training, AWS often tends to produce psychopaths and needs to undergo medpods wipes to eradicate psychological problems. [2]

The program was discontinued at the end of the Tientsin Campaign in 2165 due to several incident during the conflict [2], the Corps reaching 240.000 personnel-troops [3] and the relative need of raised at war soldiers during peace time. The last generation of AWS was born in 2163 and were raised to Lamont Beta in Garrison System Beta when the program was relocated from Redlake Field ASFB. Ultimately the AWS Program was officially terminated in 2181 when the last AWS batch entered in service. [2]

Many of them were raised and genetically modified to become General Delyla Vaught's elite personal strike force, the Blackguard [4] operating from the USS Tunku Allang. Many of them perished in the 2183-2184 border bombings.[2]
