Publisher's Summary[]
INDISPENSABLE TECHNOLOGY FOR AN UNFORGIVING UNIVERSE
Alien: The Blueprints is a collection of brand new blueprints and technical drawings of all the major vehicles, ships and technology of the Alien movie universe. Artist Graham Langridge delves deep into the franchise's concept art, set designs and photography to recreate full and accurate blueprints of iconic ships, locations and equipment such as the dropship, the Sulaco, the Nostromo and many more. Covering all the movies, including Alien: Covenant, this comprehensive book is a must-have for any Alien fan.
Overview[]
The bulk of the book consists of technical schematics detailing the ships, vehicles and locations found in the Alien film series. These include exterior blueprints as well as interior deck/floor plans. In addition to the technology found in the four original Alien movies, it also contains blueprints relating to the prequel films Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. The book is divided into sections by film, with each containing a foreword that briefly summarizes the plot and production of the movie in question.
All of the major starships in the series are covered, including the USCSS Nostromo, the USS Sulaco, the USM Auriga, the USCSS Prometheus and the USCSS Covenant, along with major terrestrial locations such as the Hadley's Hope colony and the Fiorina 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit, as well as other vehicles such as the Cygnus Tostek Refinery and Narcissus from Alien, the derelict Alien ship, dropship, APC , Powerloader, and Diahoti tractor from Aliens, the emergency escape vehicle from Alien3, the Betty and the USM Auriga from Alien Resurrection, the RT01, RC01, and the ATV from Prometheus, the lander and cargo lifter from Alien: Covenant, and even includes a rough schematic of the Space Jockey itself.
In addition to the blueprints, the book also contains an afterword by author/illustrator Graham J. Langridge in which he reveals the long, painstaking process of creating the blueprints, beginning with his creation of exterior plans for the Nostromo, previously published in the Alien Vault book.
Trivia[]
- To celebrate the release of Alien: The Blueprints, limited edition enamel pins were given away with each copy of the book at the 2019 New York Comic Con.
- The Nostromo blueprints are essentially enlarged reprints of the blueprint from Alien Vault.
- Much of the technical information included in text on the Alien and Aliens blueprints is taken directly from Aliens: Colonial Marines Technical Manual; in fact, some of the text is copied verbatim from the earlier book.
- Moreover, a note on page 47 confirms that the Colonial Marines Technical Manual exists within the fictional Alien universe. However, the publication date given is January 5, 2175; this is four years before the movie Aliens takes place, the events of which are referenced repeatedly throughout the Technical Manual. The Technical Manual itself implies a publication date of 2179, which would make more sense.[1]
Goofs[]
- On the blueprints for the Daihotai Tractor, Daihotai Engineering is mistakenly spelled Diahotai.
