Alan Dean Foster (born November 18, 1946) is an American writer of fantasy and science fiction who wrote the novelizations of Alien, Aliens, Alien3 and Alien: Covenant, as well as the novel Alien: Covenant - Origins. Foster is a prolific creator of and contributor to book series as well as the author of more than 20 single novels. He is especially prolific in his novelizations of film scripts; aside from the Alien films, he has written the novelizations in the Star Trek, Star Wars, Terminator and Transformers franchises.

- Among the films novelised by Foster are Darkstar, which was written by Alien co-writer Dan O'Bannon, and Outland, which has frequently been compared to Alien due to it's remarkably similar aesthetic and comparable themes.
