- "There's nowhere to hide. No place you can go to be safe from them.
Such perfect engines of carnage. Cunning. Fearless. Powerful.
There's horrific beauty in what they are." - ―Abel Barrett (from Aliens: Incubation)
Abel Barrett was a geologist for Wayne Tech who had been sent down to the Mexican/Guatemalan border to survey for copper deposits.
Biography[]
While collecting soil samples, the geologist discovered a downed alien spacecraft where he discovered the deceased corpses of extraterrestrial humanoids. After a detailed investigation of the ships interior, he was able to deduce and record exactly what had happened to the deceased crew members. Having seen one of the alien creatures that perpetuated the carnage within, the geologist fled from the downed craft, seeking refuge in an ancient ruin where he was able to record his final thoughts on a digital device before falling victim to an Alien himself.
Legacy[]
After locating the downed extraterrestrial spacecraft, Batman and a team of covert ops, codenamed Dead-Man's Hand, discovered the geologist's corpse. Batman identified the man as Abel Barrett, an employee of Wayne Tech who went missing during a routine scientific expedition. His corpse, cocooned against the wall of an ancient ruin, had been used to breed an Alien creature that ultimately grew into a fierce organism and attacked the search party before being obliterated by an explosion, that incinerated Barrett's corpse in the process.
Trivia[]
- While Abel's character first appeared in the comic book short story Aliens: Incubation, his name was not revealed until the release of the 1997 crossover comic book series Batman/Aliens.
- While the original DHP release of Aliens: Incubation was in black and white, the 1997 trade paperback release of Batman/Aliens included a colorized version of the comic book short story in which Abel Barrett was given brown hair and eyes.
