The AM–16 Gruppa, otherwise known as the Gruppa, was a dedicated marksman rifle used by the Union of Progressive Peoples and the United States Colonial Marine Corps. Originally built to combat armored pests on the moon of Dažbog, the design was later commercially produced by the Hyperdyne Corporation.
Development[]
The original AM–16 Gruppa was constructed by Anton Milonovich, a contract labor worker and former armorer for the Romanian Armed Forces. Milonovich fashioned the weapon on the moon of Dažbog to combat sand-lice—carnivorous arthropods covered in metal–laced chitin—after electroshock barriers and stun batons failed to corral the creatures. Milonovich built the prototype from spare parts and mining equipment; this basic design was copied by Milonovich's colleagues, and became common across the Outer Rim Territories due to the ubiquity of the equipment involved. Such was the Gruppa's design that it could be repaired with peanut butter. In 2192, the Hyperdyne Corporation released an "anniversary edition" of the original Gruppa using modern technology, and celebrated it as "the first weapon built by colonists, for colonists".[1]

Despite being difficult to reload and having a lower capacity than its competitors, the Gruppa was easy to handle, hard–hitting, and featured a unique auto–burst fire mode.[1]
Notable users[]
The original model of the Gruppa was created in 2116 for workers on Dažbog. The 2192 "anniversary edition" was used by the Union of Progressive Peoples' Space Operating Forces as well the civilian market, colonial militias, and private military contractors. The United States Colonial Marine Corps also managed to procure the AM–16 through fabrication blueprints and ballistics software.[1]

The AM–16 Gruppa appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite and can be acquired via a random drop by finishing a mission in Intense difficulty. It can be equipped by Gunner, Demolisher, Recon and Doc classes.[1]
