The UA Northridge AD-19C/D Bearcat VTOL Strikeship, (also known simply as the "Bearcat"),[1] is a type of strikeship manufactured by Weyland-Yutani's subsidiary UA Northridge and primarily used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps. [1]
Development and Overview[]
The Bearcat was designed after the "'67 Buy Out", mainly to escort the heavier Cheyenne dropships in battlefield, scouting areas and providing air-to-ground support to ground forces. The AD-19 has the ability to take off and land vertically from unprepared sites and can be fitted with an armored underslung MEDIVAC panniers that carry six wounded.[1]
Propulsion[]
The Bearcat is propelled by two turbofan engines, it is usually deployed planetside but the ship is also able to operate quite well in space. However it don't have the necessary engine power to reach escape velocity unassisted.[1]
Variants[]
AD-19C[]
The original production version. It features a cockpit that can accomomdates a crew of two.[1]
AD-19D[]
A variant that features a larger cabin that can holds a crew of four.[1]
History[]
In 2184, during Operation: Go Fish, on Pandora, a dozen of Bearcats are seen escorting six UD-4S Skycrane carrying M40 Ridgeways to support the fighting troops and driving out UPP troops from the spaceport and from the planet.[3]
During Operation: Octopus Garden, on Pandora, four Bearcats are seen patroling Darwin Island.[4]
During the Earth War, Bearcats were initially used for reconnaissance looking for survivors and providing air support. But after the fall of Earth and the collapse of United Americas chain of command, Bearcat pilots mostly made random strikes for fun, not caring if they are shooting Xenomorph of survivors.[5]
Trivia[]
- The Bearcat made its first appearance in the comics Aliens: Nightmare Asylum.
- It the comics, the Bearcat is clearly shown as a single-seat vehicle, while it is said in the RPG that the ship is two-seated.
- It shares the same nickname as the Grumman F8F Bearcat.
