"After many revisions, Alphatech has finally delivered a contender in the Machine Pistol market. It performs closer to traditional SMGs, with a lower fire rate and smaller magazine than typical Machine Pistols—however, the heavy impact is well appreciated in its small package."
―Overview of the 8A7 Dambulla Machine Pistol (from Aliens: Fireteam Elite)

The 8A7 Dambulla Machine Pistol, also known as the Dambulla, was a machine pistol manufactured by Alphatech Hardware and used by its subsidiary Decisive Solutions Inc., as well as the Independent Core System Colonies and the United States Colonial Marine Corps.

Development[]

The 8A7 Dambulla Machine Pistol was developed by Decisive Solutions Inc., a military contracting subsidiary of Alphatech Hardware. It was designed with a slim profile to enable stowage in tight spaces, such as between seats in cramped light armored vehicles; this ensured that any crew bailing out of the vehicle in the middle of a firefight would be able to defend themselves. Such a design choice stemmed from incidents in the 2180s, during which Decisive Solutions operatives were forced to abandon their vehicles after mowing down Xenomorphs, thereby crippling the vehicles by way of the creative's acid blood—those operatives were swiftly killed, having been equipped with mere sidearms.[1]

Early iterations of the Dambulla were built around a full monopole mechanism, which rendered the weapon silent while firing while reducing its penetrative power; following an incident on St. John during which hijackers wore body armor capable of deflecting those underpowered rounds, later models of the Dambulla were essentially revised. Some of the early models were confiscated and stored in company armories for eventual disposal.[1]

Overview[]

The 8A7 Dambulla Machine Pistol used Alphatech Hardware's proprietary hybrid firing mechanism, which combined a monopole electromagnet and conventional chemical propellant. Much like a submachine gun, the Dambulla possessed a lower rate of fire and magazine capacity than typical machine pistols, but packed more punch. Despite having a relatively low recoil, the Dambulla's narrow boxy grip was described as "uncomfortable", particularly when fired single–handedly. As with the 4C2 Astra, the Dambulla was prone to misfiring in highly electromagnetic environments; however, unlike the Astra, the electromagnetic firing mechanism could not be manually disabled.[1]

Notable users[]

The first silent models of the 8A7 Dambulla Machine Pistol were originally released in 2187 exclusively for Decisive Solutions. A more contemporary model was manufactured in the 2190s after the St. John incident and subsequently acquired by the United States Colonial Marine Corps, Independent Core System Colonies, and several national armed services and law enforcement agencies from South Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific Rim. Several criminal organizations also obtained some earlier models; also following the St. John incident, thousands of Dambulla pistols were quietly pilfered from storage and sold to various illicit concerns, which led to a crime wave in the Core Systems. Alphatech cooperated with federal police agencies from the United Americas and Three World Empire to track the stolen pistols; however, only seventy–nine were recovered as of 2202.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The 8A7 Dambulla Machine Pistol appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Pathogen Expansion DLC. It can be acquired from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points and can be equipped by Technician, Doc and Phalanx classes.[1]
