The 26 Draconis Strain was the name given to a variant of a dangerous alien pathogen created by scientists aboard the exploratory vessel USCSS Cronus. Following its creation, the 26 Draconis Strain's effects led to a number of incidents.

History[]

What would become the 26 Draconis Strain was discovered in 2110[1] on the planet LV-1113 in the 26 Draconis System by the crew of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation exploratory vessel USCSS Cronus. While on the world, crew scientist Doctor Daniel Cooper and his team took samples of a mysterious pathogen aboard an alien ship and subjected it to experimentation; the resulting strain was used to inoculate crewmembers after they were exposed to airborne spores that spawned hostile neomorph creatures. Following an incident, LV–1113 was destroyed, the Cronus was set adrift, and its lifeboat the Cheiron was trapped in the accretion disk of a singularity that resulted. Over the next seventy–four years or so, the Cheiron was overtaken by a living Proto-Hive, while those inoculated within began to transform into beings known as the Perfected. Meanwhile, traces of the 26 Draconis Strain were mutated into luminescent lifeforms that were equipped with the urge to find and infect both artificial and organic life.[2]

Weyland–Yutani later located the Cronus and attempted to board it with a view to recovering any of the 26 Draconis Strain;[3] however, before the USCSS Montero was diverted to do so, United States Colonial Marine Corps Colonel Edward Meyers' Blackguard team copied Weyland–Yutani's tactics and returned several samples to Fort Nebraska on Ariarcus,[4] where a weaponized version of the strain dubbed 26B Draconis was developed.[5] All such samples were later destroyed alongside Fort Nebraska after Ariarcus was hit with a mundicidal pathogenic attack.[6]

In 2185, the Cheiron was recovered from the singularity in the 26 Draconis System by the Weyland–Yutani mining station Erebos. Shortly after, the mutated 26 Draconis Strain attacked Erebos and initiated its transformation into a Proto–Hive as the Perfected from the Cheiron invaded and spawned proto-Xenomorphic creatures throughout the facility.

Effects[]

26 Draconis Strain[]

The 26 Draconis Strain stood a ninety–five percent chance of arresting the development of neomorph spores, though the possibility of DNA recoding remained.[1] Colonel Meyers later used the strain in the case of a Xenomorph implantation; while the 26 Draconis Strain stopped chestburster development, it occasionally modified the genes of the host and caused the formation of an aberrant Xenomorph breed dubbed the Bodyburster.[4]

26B Draconis Strain[]

Scientists at Fort Nebraska on Ariarcus developed the 26B Draconis strain, which was derived from USCM Sergeant Amelia Wójcik's blood. This strain took the form of a weaponized variant that skipped the hazards of its progenitor by guaranteeing the transformation of the host into a Bodyburster, without the requisite need to be impregnated by a chestburster beforehand.[5]
