So, I noticed that this wiki isn’t particularly active. Even with the latest installment(though that one is in an alternate timeline). And part of me thinks that maybe that’s because the xenomorph and the predator didn’t need to get big ass franchises. Because let’s face it, there’s always something that weighs down every movie after the first. I’m not including the games and comics because that would make this too long.
Predator 2: Personally, the switch to an urban jungle isn’t the best transition. There’s also that weird side plot with those warring drug cartels. But I will say that a police procedural that deals with alien criminals does have potential(so long as it distances itself from the Yautja and the xenomorph).
Aliens: For all its B-movie charm and stylistic action, it still commits a grievous sin, and that is reducing the xenomorph race to a bunch of oversized insects instead of a possible cosmic horror entity, while also ditching the slow burn horror of the first movie. That said, it does well as the proto adaptation of Starship Troopers, and a lot better than the actual adaptation in terms of acting,
Predators: While taking place on an alien planet is a nice change of pace, there’s still the controversial plot around the Yautja abducting random humans and forcing them to compete in blood sports for their amusement. A far cry from the noble warrior race they were previously established as.
Alien 3 and Resuurection: Say what you will about Aliens, but if that ending didn’t make you smile, you ain’t human. And then they just fucking kill Newt and perform an autopsy on her. Dear god, these movies are so depressing that you’ll wanna blow your brains out.
The Predator: What else is there to say about this shit show that hasn’t already been said? Plays out like bad fan fiction.
Prometheus and Covenant: Arguably, people were more upset with the explanations in these two movies than in Aliens. Sure, let’s make the space jockey evil, sure, let’s make a misanthropic android the creator. It’s telling when the co-creator of the first movie lambasts the first prequel as the complete antithesis of the first movie. Because you know what’s smart? Letting us draw our own conclusions about things instead of shoehorning in answers(cough cough, Krampus movie, cough cough, The Giver). Although, admittedly, the philosophical angle does have its own appeal.
Prey and Romulus: plays things a bit too safe, don’t you think? Of course, Prey is just an apology for The Predator and Romulus balances out the prequels without removing them from the continuity. But they’re both stylish, I’ll give them that.
Killer Of Killers: The only difference between it and Predators is that the humans that were abducted already fought and killed a Yautja. Which is still not a good look for the Yautja.
Earth: Hah hah Ripley, the aliens reached earth, and all your efforts meant nothing. Seriously, that ice age stuff is just next level cringe. Also, I came into this expecting it to be a mini series, I don’t know if I can hold out for four more possible seasons.
And though Badlands is still a ways away from releasing, I can tell that it’s basically gonna be an apology for those AvP movies that aren’t worth discussing. Also, why’s everyone so mad about Earth decanonizing most Alien movies. Do y’all not release that some fans disregard the prequels and sequels too? Hell, some have even speculated that everything after Alien were nightmares Ripley experienced in cryosleep. And personally, I find that to be a fun theory, one that I’m more than welcome to accept. Is it childish? Yeah. But it works for me.
Tell me your thoughts on this long ass essay if you don’t mind
