I don’t think the prequels should be thrown out for their own additions and philosophical merit that they add to the overall franchise. I like that the prequels help connect the series on a molecular level, despite them making some choices that leave a sour taste. It’s so interesting to try and connect dots based on artistic choices. Some examples that jumped at me:
The Engineers being white. The neomorphs being white, the offspring being white, and the newborn being white. Now that Romulus essentially provides a soft retcon for the black goo, for me it makes Resurrection a tad more interesting imagining that somewhere deep in the genetic code the pearlescent Engineer color trait expressed itself in the newborn, because it is part human.
It literally is so stupid in how much nuance it has, but I do love it. I’m worried about Alien:Earth because the last time we saw Xenos on Earth it didn’t work great. Plus for me the series felt like a battle to try and NOT let the Xenos get to Earth. To imagine they were there since Prometheus is too much.
In short, I don’t think we’ll be losing that cannon anytime soon, but some simple retcons disconnecting the Aliens from the Jockeys would serve the series well.
Because the Engineers created humanity from their own seeded DNA, the Offspring showcases those deep underlying traits. That’s how I took it.
